I should say that I value wildflowers highly, and the aster that is seen to the right of the photo, was a very successful transplant from a waste area. Plantain, too, is cultivated.

The yard was a blank upon move-in in April. I installed the garden in June, knowing it is best to wait to see what plants may have appeared. Undoubtedly, there will be additional surprises this season. This is the garden as it was in September.

I suggest vines on a trellis for blocking the view. Pea, Moonflower, Morning Glory, or Passionfruit are my faves. None of those will survive your winter, but they grow fast in spring and make a great hedge between neighbors.
