Long Beans on shed ... space is where you find it!
A friend from Taiwan brought me seeds of a favorite Chinese Long Bean from her mother's garden. This is how they looked on July 31. Trellis is made of telephone line wire pulled from a dump site around 1983, when lines went underground here. Inherited from my froogal father-in-law.. plastic coating makes it cooler to vines. Eye-bolts.. and patience... complete the system. Diagonal set is so that in future years I can stake blackberry canes by just training under the "x" spots, then cut off and pull out the bottom end of season.. Look how I used the "wasted space" of a junk shed to grow food. Transplanted Yankee ingenuity!
