Russian SageWow, what a sight when in full bloom. Uploaded by cargobean on 2007-08-08, 22:10:21 into , Prized Flowers COMMENTSThis is a plant I want for my garden. How much water do you give it and where is this plant located? What state etc. Thanks Posted by greekgarden on 2007-09-17, 15:38:46 . Russian sage is very drought tolerant because the tap root is extremely long. It also spreads, so when you want to cut it back and control its spread you will find it comes right back because the tap root was too long to get. I am told I was smart to put mine in a pot - which was just luck on my part. You could put it in large pots and bury the pots, I suppose, to control the spread. I'm not sure if it puts out seedlings; I haven't seen any from my potted one. I sure do like it paired with other blue flowers like this person did. Posted by laurabs on 2007-09-26, 20:18:33 . This is a great colour scheme with lots of texture. I love the way you have put this together. Good work! Posted by alleykat on 2007-12-28, 15:54:41 . Hello All: Wow, thanks for the compliments. I just love russian sage. It's hassle free totally. I'm in Zone 6 in Canterbury Connecticut. Though I think I'm really a zone 5. I do not water it as much as my other plants, probably every other week. But it's very drought tolerant and I don't bother with watering it much. As for the comments from laurabs, I haven't had a single problem with it spreading and I've had it for over 3 year's. I have also had no seedling's either, so it's just been a fantastic plant for me. It started blooming in the beginning of July and was still going strong at the end of September, how can you beat that. I am going to put them all around the back of my garden with tall phlox inbetween. They are a great backdrop to the garden. Thanks for all the compliments guys. Happy Gardening. Very pretty indeed! What is the tall spiky plant not in bloom, right behind the daylilly. Is it an Autumn bloomer? Posted by red_geranium on 2008-02-07, 03:26:55 . What a wonderful palette! I have several planted by my walkway, and love to "pet" it as I walk by to release the wonderful fragrance. My non-gardener friends just don't get it!! Posted by slredmond on 2008-03-09, 08:25:36 . Hi. Do you think it would grow in Houston TX. If you find a supplier can you let me know please - I would love this for my garden! Christine Posted by christine_1958 on 2008-03-28, 10:52:21 . Love the photo you posted on Garden Web (the one with the Russian Sage). Can you tell me what the blue flower is that is pictured in the lower right corner of this photo? Actually, do you remember what all the plants are that you have in this photo? It's beautiful! Posted by just_me_6 on 2008-04-25, 22:55:28 . very beautiful! Posted by joelsm on 2008-04-27, 20:30:49 . Hi again: Wow, I hadn't checked in here in a while. I will try and answer your question's. The flowers are a daylily; Bubbling Edge, Blue Daddy {I think} Petunia, Carnation Pinks, yarrow, not sure what kind and Pink Sonata Cosmos and a double pink Petunia too. I think that's it in the picture. Glad you all like. As for getting it, my nursery always has it, but I have also seen it at Blue Stone Perennials, hope that helps. And thanks again for all the compliments, what fun. Posted by cargobean on 2008-04-28, 22:43:19 . |
