Step 10: Cull the bottom leaves. When the plants are 3-4 inches tall, remove the leaves from the bottom inch of the stem. This prevents fungus problems which grow from the bottom of the plant, since this is the area that receives the least amount of sun and is most exposed to soil born pathogens.
