GardenWeb Guide to Growing Perfect Tomato Plants
Step 8: Plant them deep. Once the seedlings show their first leaves, transplant them, and then move them into pots two weeks after that. Plant your tomatoes deeper than other plants, all the way up to the top set of leaves. Tomatoes send out roots along their stems, and the more roots the plants develop, the faster the plant will grow. Plant tomatoes 2-3 feet apart or in rows three feet apart with the plants at foot intervals.
